Whatever happened to Paris Hilton?

When I got my first job on a magazine features desk seven years ago, everyday featured Paris Hilton in some glittery shape or form. Her 'song' The Stars Are Blindplayed from myspace pages (I can still sing the lyrics now, goddamnit) her 16 perfumes polluted the beauty cupboards and new pictures of her with her cupcake-sized dogs littered the picture desk. Sometimes she was pictured partying with a gorgeous friend Kim – but no one cared about Kim. Fast forward to the present day and Paris is nowhere to be seen. Said friend Kim Kardashian however is EVERYWHERE to be seen.

So whatever happened to Paris and her well-travelled teapot red carpet pose? Well in 2010 something pa-retty bad happened to Paz (don't laugh, that's what I used to call her around the time I had to write her name ten million times a week.) She was woken at 5am in her LA mansion by a crazy man banging on the downstairs window. "He looked like he wanted to kill me and he kept banging on the windows demanding to be let in. I screamed, I was certain he was going to get through the windows or door then that would be it," she said in an interview with The Sun.

Thankfully her boyfriend at the time, Cy Waits, came to her rescue. He got a gun went outside and put it to the man's head then forced him to the ground and held him there until the police arrived. And that terrifying moment, as it would any of us, changed Paris forever. "Seeing someone with such hate in their eyes – someone who wants to kill you makes you question things, and it made me wonder about the price of fame. After the attack I decided to withdraw from the public eye before anything worse happened. I stopped going to clubs and parties and I started focusing on my business interests instead," she said.

FILMS WE CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS YEAR

This summer Paris will return to the spotlight for her cameo in The Bling Ring. She plays herself partying in an LA nightclub in a movie adaptation of the true story about a gang of youngsters who stole designer swag from celebs homes including Paris's. On hearing this I began to rock slowly with fear, The Stars Are Blind playing hauntingly in my head, I couldn't handle another year of Paris overkill. Well, thankfully it turns out I don't have to because Paris insists she's focussing instead on building a hotel empire following in the footsteps of her grandfather from now on. She says, "I have changed a great deal in the past few years. I'm not some ditzy blonde who can get pushed around. I'm a tough business woman." Oh. I quite like the sound of her now and I almost don't want her to go away. But that's okay, I still have a DVD of the 2008 romcom movie she directed. It was called The Hotty and the Notty FYI.
